LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. – A severe fire late last night ravaged a Lexington County home to the ground, according to local fire department records. Multiple units from nearby counties worked together to extinguish the blaze, which raged through the two-story house located on Smallwood Drive. The fire department was alerted to the situation at 1 a.m. on Friday.
Upon receiving the distress signal, the Little Mountain Fire Department (LMFD), alongside units from Fairview O’Neal Fire Department and Pomaria Fire Department and Rescue Squad, was among the first to respond to the emergency. Assistance was also provided from firefighting crews covering Irmo, Columbia, and Newberry County. These combined units labored painstakingly into the early morning to control the fire incident.
The dwelling, a two-story house undergoing renovation work prior to habitation, was reportedly consumed entirely by the inferno, despite the best efforts of the responding fire crews. The burning house displayed heavy fire throughout, with fire officials eventually declaring the property as a total loss.
The absence of occupants at the time of the fire outbreak was a saving grace, as it has been confirmed that no individuals were within the apartment at the time of ignition. As a result, there were no injuries or tragic loss of life recorded.
With the fire now under control and the scene deemed safe, an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched by local fire authorities. Their findings are expected to shed light on the origin of the incident, as they carry out a thorough examination of the fire scene and conduct interviews as deemed necessary.
While Lexington County residents grapple with the unfortunate incident, this serves as a stark reminder of the importance of fire safety measures, proper maintenance, and safety checks within residential properties.
