Law enforcement reveals a significant stash of firearms and stolen items during an investigation in Lexington County.
In a recent law enforcement operation in Lexington County, South Carolina, three men were arrested following a major firearms seizure. The arrests stemmed from community tips about suspicious activities linked to Joshua Nelson, revealing a stash of stolen goods and firearms. The investigation uncovered multiple illicit items, including dirt bikes and numerous firearms across several residences. Authorities are now focused on ensuring community safety and addressing the extensive criminal activities uncovered during the investigation.
In a shocking turn of events, the peaceful community of Lexington County, South Carolina was rattled when law enforcement took swift action on February 21, 2025. Three men were arrested, bringing to light a disturbing situation that involves firearms, stolen goods, and a so-called chop shop operation. The individuals arrested include Joshua Nelson (38), Michael Lankford (67), and Larry Grubbs (66).
The arrests came after friendly neighbors reached out to the authorities with tips, raising concerns about Nelson’s alleged activities. Residents in the 4000 block of Fish Hatchery Road in Gaston noticed suspicious behaviors and decided to take action. What followed was a well-coordinated response from local deputies who were able to obtain a search warrant based on this valuable community information.
Upon searching the location linked to Nelson, deputies were met with a trove of illicit items. They uncovered four firearms along with four dirt bikes, three of which investigators confirmed were indeed stolen. This alarming find set the stage for further investigations into Nelson’s dealings, and more discoveries were just around the corner.
Following the initial search, information provided by Nelson himself proved useful for the authorities. They proceeded to conduct another search at his mother’s home located in the 1000 block of Valley Ridge Road in Calhoun County. Here, they uncovered a staggering total of 15 additional firearms. But the search didn’t stop there; investigators continued their pursuit of justice at a residence in the 200 block of Sandspur Road in Pelion, where they found yet another 16 firearms!
The deputies’ efficient work didn’t end with the discovery of firearms. Just the following day, they recovered a stolen camper from the 200 block of Betty Boulevard in nearby Kershaw County, raising questions about the extent of these men’s criminal activities. It became evident that the community’s safety was compromised, and these arrests may have provided a significant relief to local residents.
The trio of suspects are facing severe charges due to their past convictions. Joshua Nelson was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm following his previous crimes. Meanwhile, Michael Lankford faces even graver consequences with seven counts of a similar offense. Larry Grubbs is in hot water too, facing two counts of firearm possession and an additional charge for operating a chop shop—a facility often linked to the handling of stolen vehicles.
As it stands now, Larry Grubbs is held at the Lexington County Detention Center, awaiting the legal process to unfold. Surprisingly, Joshua Nelson and Michael Lankford were released after complying with their bond conditions. This leaves the community with questions about the next steps and what measures will be taken to ensure a safer future.
The arrests have prompted discussions around community involvement in safety and vigilance regarding suspicious activities. Residents are reminded of the importance of speaking up and sharing information with law enforcement to help maintain peace in their neighborhoods.
As the situation develops, Lexington County remains attentive to the ongoing investigations, eager to restore a sense of safety and order.
