The quest to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic demise of Caldwell Melton Motley Jr., and the subsequent house fire in Lexington County, South Carolina, has received a significant boost. Sheriff’s Department investigators have reportedly identified persons of interest in the dramatic case.
According to information from the Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, 38-year-old Motley Jr. succumbed to multiple stab wounds on a recent Saturday night. He was subsequently found in his house situated on the 200 block of Oak Ridge Lane, Lexington, post-fire.
Another man, whose identity remains undisclosed, was rescued from a detached garage in the backyard of the burnt house. As informed by the authorities, he is expected to survive.
An official from the Sheriff’s Department refrained from disclosing any specific details. However, they mentioned that investigators were following ‘good leads’. Information gleaned from the investigating team revealed that Motley Jr., and the surviving man were roommates.
Various neighbors in the Lexington neighborhood have expressed their astonishment over the incident. Leslie Queen, a resident living three houses down from the crime scene, stated that she was still in shock while recalling her interactions with the owner of the house.
“Honestly, we were just neighbors. Our interactions were limited to courteous greetings, particularly when the owner was walking his dog. This shocking incident makes it seem surreal that we didn’t have a personal relationship,” confessed Leslie Queen. At present, deputies are stationed at the house, which is cordoned off by crime scene tape. According to another resident, Matthew Queen, the presence of law enforcement personnel has been welcomed by the neighborhood.
“Ever since the incident, there has been a continuous law enforcement presence, which has made us feel very safe. Considering we have an elementary school and plenty of elderly people and young children in the neighborhood, this is a welcome development,” described Queen.
Motley Jr. does not appear to be the registered owner of the house, as per checks on property records. The question of whether the surviving victim is the home’s registered owner remains in the shadow. The department spokesperson did not confirm, stating that they do not disclose victims’ names.
The investigation currently continues as investigators work to unravel the truth behind the fatal stabbing and following fire. The Lexington County community seeks answers and prays for peace and consensus, as the identified persons of interest bring closer a resolution to this daunting case.
