Lexington Community Mourns the Passing of Beloved Coach Ken Poole

Lexington, SC – The community is coming together to remember Ken Poole, a cherished educator and coach who impacted the lives of countless student-athletes during his 38-year career. Ken, who was born on February 25, 1949, to William and Ada Poole in Central, South Carolina, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and influential mentorship.

Who Was Ken Poole?

Ken Poole dedicated his life to education and sports. He graduated from Daniel High School in 1967 before pursuing further studies at Central Wesleyan College and undergoing graduate work at Clemson University. His professional career began at Boiling Springs High School, where he started teaching and coaching.

A Career Built on Passion

Over the years, Ken moved to various schools, including Lexington High School and Richland Northeast High School, before finally retiring from Airport High School. Throughout his career, he touched countless lives, inspiring students to excel not just in sports but also in their personal growth. His commitment to excellence made him a standout figure in the educational community.

Family and Personal Life

Ken married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Manley, in 1968. Together they raised two children, Brandon and Kindra Murphy. The family’s joy multiplied with the addition of four grandchildren: Kennedy and Cade Poole, along with Mallory and Tucker Murphy. Ken was known for his love of family, dedicating his free time after retirement to playing golf, fishing, and cherishing moments with his dogs.

Community Legacy

Ken’s passing is not only felt by his family but also by the many friends, former students, and athletes whose lives he transformed. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Russell Poole, but he leaves behind his loving wife Sandra, their children, grandchildren, cherished cousins, and friends, all of whom will remember him fondly.

Final Farewell

Services to honor Ken Poole will be held at Mt. Horeb Church, located at 1205 Old Cherokee Rd, Lexington, SC 29072, on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The service is scheduled for 3:00 PM, with visitation starting at 1:30 PM. The family invites all who knew Ken to join them in celebrating his remarkable life.

In Lieu of Flowers

The Poole family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations are made in Ken’s memory to the Airport High School Booster Club or to a charity of your choice. This will help continue the legacy of support Ken provided to student-athletes throughout his life.

Remembering a Mentor

As friends and family reflect on Ken Poole’s life and contributions, the impact he made on his students will undoubtedly resonate for years to come. His passion for coaching and teaching remains an inspiration, encouraging the next generation to strive for greatness in every endeavor.
