Lexington Tragedy: Man and Teen Motorcyclist Dead in Kyzer Road Accident

Distressing Incident Claimed Two Lives

Tragedy struck in Lexington, S.C., a serene suburban locality known for its tranquil streets and friendly neighborhood, when a 63-year-old man and a 17-year-old motorcyclist lost their lives in a shocking accident. The incident took place late in the evening on Tuesday, August 21, 2024.

The victims have been identified as Kevin Scott Collins, a 63-year-old local, and James Leonard Ely III, a 17-year-old motorcyclist from the same area. Kevin Scott Collins was crossing the street to check his mailbox when the teenager, traveling west on Kyzer Road, hit him.

The Incident

The fatal accident occurred around 10 PM on the 200 block of Kyzer Road. Both Ely and Collins succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead at the scene by the officials. The County Coroner’s office confirmed the details of this unnerving incident in a news release.

It has been reported that James Leonard Ely III was not alone at the time of the accident. He had a passenger riding pillion on his bike. Miraculously, the passenger survived the crash, sustaining minor injuries, and was transported to a local hospital immediately.

Ely was found to be wearing a helmet while riding, the news release from the coroner’s office stated. Despite this safety precaution, the magnitude of the collision rendered it tragically inadequate.
