Lexington Man Charged After Abandoning Dogs Without Food or Water for a Fortnight
Five dogs were left to fend for themselves, three of which were found dead
In a shocking case of animal neglect, a Lexington man was recently arrested after investigators discovered evidence of his pets being left alone in his home for nearly two weeks without any food or water. Five dogs in total were found in the residence, two of which were found barely surviving, while tragically, three had already succumbed to the harsh conditions.
Arrest Made and Charges Filed
Robert John Jachim, aged 40, has now been taken into custody following the investigation conducted by the Lexington County Animal Services. This follows the discovery of the five dogs in his Corley Street residence. Subsequent interviews revealed that Mr. Jachim left his home on July 2 and hadn’t returned since.
The Condition of the Dogs
Investigators found four dogs within wire crates, two of which had sadly perished due to neglect. An additional small dog was found dead in one of the bedrooms, while the two surviving dogs were found to be severely emaciated.
Following the discovery, the surviving dogs were promptly transported to Pawmetto Lifeline for immediate medical attention and care. As per the latest reports, they were observed to be so malnourished that they initially refused any food offered to them. The shelter workers in coordination with Lexington County Animal Services are now working tirelessly to improve their physical condition.
The two dogs are currently on a strict feeding schedule and are being provided additional nutrients to regain their strength. Pawmetto Lifeline has agreed to look make the long-term care arrangements for the dogs.
The Legal Proceedings
Following his arrest, Robert John Jachim is now facing five counts of ill treatment of animals. Following his booking in the Lexington County Detention Center, Jachim was granted a $5,000 bond.
Lexington County Animal Services, the agency responsible for the current proceedings, has affirmed their commitment towards animal welfare and enforcement of relevant regulations. They are presently employing several officers and investigators while actively hiring for more personnel.

Many within the local community have expressed their shock and outrage at this flagrant display of animal cruelty, and are demanding that all possible legal measures be taken against those perpetrating such acts. The evident neglect and resultant death of the dogs has stirred deep-rooted sentiments for the well-being of all pets and animals within the Lexington County.
