Deputies: Lexington man dies after chase with state officer
LEXINGTON, S.C. – A tragic incident unfolded in Lexington, South Carolina, as a young man lost his life following a chase with a state police officer. The incident, which resulted in the death of Dwayne Alfonso Reed Jr., 20, has left the community in shock and sorrow.
Fatal Chase and Crash
According to reports from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Reed was driving recklessly and speeding, prompting a state officer with the South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services to initiate a pursuit. The chase began on I-20 near the Longs Pond Road exit after the officer activated his blue lights and siren.
Unfortunately, Reed, in a bid to evade the officer, continued to speed at an alarming rate. This reckless behavior culminated in a fatal crash on Longs Pond Road near Roscoe Road, where Reed lost control of his vehicle and collided with two trees. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to Reed’s immediate death at the scene.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher confirmed Reed’s death and stated that he was the sole occupant of the car at the time of the incident. Sheriff Jay Koon expressed regret over the tragic outcome, highlighting the dangers of high-speed pursuits.
