Lexington, S.C., Man Succumbs After I-81 Crash in Maryland

In a tragic turn of events, a man from Lexington, S.C., has passed away following his involvement in a serious vehicular accident on notorious Interstate 81, near Maryland’s busy Halfway neighborhood, that occurred in early July. This unfortunate news was confirmed by a reliable spokesperson for Maryland State Police.

Life-changing Collision on I-81

Scott Cutting, aged 66, was at the helm of a 2016 Ford Transit van, heading south on I-81 on the fateful afternoon of July 6. According to a preliminary investigation carried out by Maryland State Police, disaster struck when a 2009 Acura MDX that was also on the southbound lane, inexplicably moved into the lane occupied by the Ford Transit.

The report further details that following the forceful contact with the Acura MDX, the van deviated to the left, colliding with a concrete barrier wall and a support pier with significant impact. The accident was reported at approximately 3:40 p.m.

Emergency Response and Subsequent Hospitalizations

In the aftermath of the violent collision, Cutting was hurriedly dispatched to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore by Maryland State Police aviation team. Unfortunately, his injuries were so severe that he succumbed to them by the end of July, as per the official confirmation from State Police Spokesperson Ngan Ho.

Scott Cutting wasn’t the only occupant of the van that tragic afternoon. He was accompanied by another passenger who also sustained injuries from the collision. The injured passenger was transported to Meritus Medical Center, located near Hagerstown, and has thankfully since been released after appropriate medical care, as shared by Ngan Ho.

Investigations and Accident Aftermath

Adding a bit of relief to this otherwise tragic incident, the unnamed driver of the Acura MDX remained at the crash scene following the incident. The status of the Acura driver’s involvement and potential repercussions are currently under thorough investigation by the Maryland State Police.

In the light of this tragic incident, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to Scott Cutting’s family and friends during this difficult period. As investigations continue, it’s a stark reminder to all road users about the importance of road safety and strict adherence to traffic rules.

Interstate 81, a heavily trafficked highway, has seen a number of serious accidents over the years. It reminds us once again of the need for constant vigilance, patience, and safe driving practices. Always be aware of the fact that the decisions you make on the road could impact not only your life but also the lives of others around you.
