News Summary

Lexington’s downtown is poised to welcome a new four-story, 111-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel at 116 E. Main St. Recent design updates have garnered approval, allowing construction to progress without further bureaucratic hurdles. With a completion timeline of just over a year after construction begins, this addition promises to enhance the local hospitality scene. The development is led by Lexington Hospitality, known for its successful management of local hotels including Quality Inn and Holiday Inn Express. As the city anticipates this exciting transformation, other hotels are also considering significant renovations.

Exciting Plans Unfold for Lexington’s New Hotel!

Lexington is getting ready to welcome a fantastic addition to its downtown area. Get ready for a four-story, 111-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel that’s set to rise at 116 E. Main St. This exciting project has taken significant strides recently, and the local buzz is all about it!

Aesthetic Updates Approved

Back in March, the board of appearance gave the thumbs up for some important changes to the hotel’s design. This new approval comes nearly a year after the initial green light. The boards unanimously backed a few tweaks that are sure to enhance the hotel’s charm and fit beautifully into the growing cityscape.

One notable change is the removal of a metal trellis from the patio at the front entrance, opening up the space for a more welcoming feel. Additionally, the second-floor terrace roof will see an expansion, extending all the way across the entire terrace, which is a fantastic move to boost the streetscape and attract more visitors. There are smiles all around from board member Wayne Rogers, who considers this extension to be a big plus for the area.

Going Full Steam Ahead

The good news for this hotel project is that with the approval from the board of appearance, it’s now clear of needing any further approvals from either the planning commission or town council. Very efficient indeed! The town’s staff is currently busy doing their thing, reviewing construction permit applications, which is a vital step on the road to breaking ground.

If all goes smoothly, construction on the hotel could kick off in approximately two to six months once permits are finalized. And that’s not all—construction itself is anticipated to wrap up in just a bit over a year after it gets started. So, the wait won’t be too long for the people of Lexington eager for new hospitality options!

About the Developer

The hotel is being developed by Lexington Hospitality, a group that knows a thing or two about hotels, as they also manage other establishments like the Quality Inn and Holiday Inn Express nearby. Clearly, they have a sense of what works in this area, and with a hotel footprint of 61,000 square feet, it sounds like they are committed to bringing something special to downtown Lexington.

A Look Back at Recent Changes

The hotel project might not have had a smooth ride initially; it faced some setbacks and was even denied by the board of appearance in January of the previous year. However, after the developers rolled up their sleeves and made some design improvements, approval came through, allowing this exciting project to move forward.

Lexington’s Hospitality Scene on the Rise

This new hotel isn’t the only accommodation news making waves in Lexington. The Kentucky Tourism Development Finance Authority board recently gave preliminary approval for potential $66 million renovations to the Hyatt Regency hotel on W. High St. Exciting plans are in place for this iconic hotel that opened its doors in 1977, which includes innovation that could see it receive up to $16.5 million in incentives.

Details surrounding the Hyatt renovation are a bit sparse, having been discussed behind closed doors. Still, with the Hyatt having gone through a significant renovation back in 2010, it’s clear this hotel isn’t resting on its laurels; the city’s hospitality scene is getting a well-deserved upgrade.

So, as we look ahead, it’s clear that Lexington is on the brink of some exciting developments in its hospitality industry. With fresh digs like the Courtyard by Marriott and potential renovations at the Hyatt Regency, there’s plenty for locals and visitors alike to look forward to!
