Lexington Celebrates Opening of the Old Mill Pond Trail Amid Community Excitement

Welcome to Lexington’s Newest Gem: The Old Mill Pond Trail!

If you’ve been looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy some fresh air and nature in Lexington, you’re in for a treat! This past Friday marked a big milestone for our town as we officially opened the much-anticipated Old Mill Pond Trail. After years of planning and overcoming challenges, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was a heartfelt moment for everyone involved.

A Long Journey to Celebration

Believe it or not, the idea for this delightful trail first came about during the town’s 2012 Vision Plan. However, like many things, it turned into a much longer journey thanks to the historic flooding that hit our region back in 2015. Lexingon faced significant damage, including breaches in local dams, which put a hold on the Old Mill project for nearly nine years.

But here we are now! Thanks to an incredible partnership between local businesses and the community, the Old Mill Pond is once again a sparkling pond, and the lovely trail surrounding it is ready for exploration.

What to Expect on the Trail

So, what makes the Old Mill Pond Trail special? First off, the trail is a generous 1.15-mile paved loop that meanders gracefully around the picturesque Lexington Mill Pond. As you walk or cycle, you will find beautiful bridges, inviting outlooks, and cozy seating areas dotted along the way. These spots are perfect for taking a break and soaking in the beauty of nature right in the heart of our town.

Things to Keep in Mind

Before you grab your walking shoes or hop on your bike, here are some important details to keep in mind:

  • Bicycles are allowed, but please note that E-bikes are not permitted.
  • There is ADA accessible and handicapped parking near the Old Mill Brew Pub.
  • For those who enjoy being on the water, note that fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, or swimming isn’t allowed in the pond.
  • No motorized vehicles are allowed on the trail except for wheelchairs.
  • Leashed dogs are warmly welcomed to join their owners on the trail.

Parking is available at several nearby locations:

  • 711 E. Main Street
  • 717 Main Street
  • 510 S. Lake Drive

Enjoying Nature Responsibly

As our community embraces this beautiful new outdoor space, let’s remember to keep it clean and inviting for all. We encourage everyone to help maintain the tranquility of the trail by disposing of any trash properly and respecting the natural wildlife that calls this area home.

Final Thoughts

The opening of the Old Mill Pond Trail is a wonderful addition for everyone in Lexington. Whether you’re looking to take a leisurely walk, go for a bike ride, or simply relax by the water, this trail has something for everyone. It’s a great place to enjoy quality time with family, friends, or even your furry companions.

So, what are you waiting for? Grab your sneakers or your bike and hit the trails! We can’t wait to see you enjoying all that this incredible new space has to offer!
