Lexington, the charming city known for its warm weather and friendly community, is gearing up for a valuable initiative that could save lives. The Lexington Police Chief, Terrence Green, recently announced the schedule for the fourth quarter of this year’s free training classes in the highly acclaimed STOP THE BLEED and C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) programs.
For the past three years, the Lexington Police Department has been offering these important training sessions at no cost. There has been a growing interest in the available classes as schools, churches, businesses, and various community groups increasingly seek guidance on how to respond effectively to emergency situations. The department’s dedicated instructors have been busy fulfilling the demand for this critical training.
So, what exactly do these sessions entail? The STOP THE BLEED class is a two-hour course that focuses on teaching participants three crucial actions to take when someone is bleeding from an injury. The course also provides hands-on experience with vital techniques such as tourniquet application and wound packing. Knowing how to react quickly and appropriately in such situations can make all the difference!
On the other hand, the C.R.A.S.E. class also lasts about two hours, but this one is designed around the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy developed by ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training). Participants will learn essential strategies and proven plans for surviving an active shooter scenario. These skills are not just theoretical; they’re practical, giving folks the know-how to potentially save lives.
Both courses will be held at the Lexington Police Department, located at 111 Maiden Lane. Each class is set to start at 6:00 p.m. and will last approximately two hours.
Here are the upcoming dates for the classes:
The best part? These invaluable classes are completely free! However, due to the limited number of seats available, it’s recommended to register quickly before they fill up.
These training sessions are open to individuals who are aged 16 and older. So, whether you’re a concerned parent, a business owner looking to ensure a safe workplace, or just someone eager to learn how to react in emergency situations, these classes are perfect for you!
Interested participants can reach out to Officer Todd Zeigler for more information or to secure a spot in one of the upcoming classes. You can give him a call at 803-359-6260 or send an email to tzeigler@lexsc.gov.
Communities thrive when they prioritize safety and preparedness. By offering these free training sessions, the Lexington Police Department is empowering citizens to take action in emergency situations. It’s about turning awareness into action and ensuring that everyone is equipped with the necessary skills to help during times of crisis.
So, mark your calendars and take advantage of this incredible opportunity! Together, let’s make Lexington an even safer place to live.
Remember, knowing how to STOP THE BLEED and respond effectively to emergencies could one day save a life, perhaps even yours or someone you care about. Be proactive and get trained!
