The dedicated team from the Lexington Police Department (LPD) is set to hold STOP THE BLEED and C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training classes, with sessions running until September. As part of a commendable effort to enhance community safety, this is the third consecutive year the Lexington Police has offered these free monthly instructional courses.
STOP THE BLEED is an intensive two-hour course, explicitly designed to equip participants with three quick, life-saving actions in event of an uncontrolled bleeding. The course provides an in-depth guidance on correctly using essential medical tools like tourniquets and effectively applying wound packing methods. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn, understand, and apply potentially life-saving first-aid techniques.
Parallelly, the C.R.A.S.E. is a two-hour course that emphasizes the Avoid, Deny, Defend strategy as developed by ALERRT. This program aims to provide strategies, guidance, and a reliable action plan for surviving an active shooting event. The course aims to equip public members with not only the necessary information but also the confidence to act decisively during these unsettling situations.
Both, the STOP THE BLEED and C.R.A.S.E. courses, will be conducted in the training room of Lexington Police Department at 111 Maiden Lane, Lexington. The classes commence every month at 6 p.m., spanning around two hours, as per LPD’s announcement.
What’s more is these extremely educational courses are absolutely free to attend, primed at mainly involving those of 16 years of age or more. The number of seats is limited for each class and potential participants are encouraged to register well in advance.
For registration and any additional information regarding the classes, interested individuals can contact Officer Todd Zeigler either via a call to 803-359-6260 or through an email to tzeigler@lexsc.gov.
