A catastrophic event occurred on Kyzer road in Lexington, South Carolina, where two residents of the city lost their lives. A 63-year-old man and a 17-year-old motorcyclist tragically fell to their deaths in a road accident that transpired around 10 p.m., Tuesday. The incident happened when the elderly citizen, identified as Kevin Scott Collins, was crossing the road after checking his mailbox, located at the 200 block of the same road.
The motorcyclist involved was identified as James Leonard Ely III, also from Lexington. Mr. Ely, who was heading west on Kyzer Road on his motorbike, was accompanied by a passenger at the time of the mishap. The passenger fortunately survived the crash with minor injuries and was transported to a local medical facility for treatment. It was confirmed that Ely was in compliance with safety regulations, wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Both Collins and Ely were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. The South Carolina Highway Patrol has taken up the responsibility of investigating the causes and circumstances of the accident. Further details about the accident are expected to be released as the investigation ensues.
It is worth noting that according to the Department of Motor Vehicles in South Carolina, individuals as young as 15 years old can acquire a beginner’s motorcycle license. It is unclear whether this law was a contributing factor in this incident. However, local authorities and civic bodies persistently advise parents and guardians to ensure that minor motorcyclists are supervised and that they adhere to all traffic and safety regulations.
This unfortunate incident has sent shock waves through the Lexington community. The locals have expressed their condolences to the bereaved families and have raised concerns over road safety, especially for juvenile motorists in the area. This event serves as a grim reminder and wake-up call about the potential dangers lurking on the roads and the importance of stringent adherence to safety measures to prevent such unfortunate events from recurring.
