New Era Dawns for Lexington SC as Inaugural USL Super League Season Kicks Off

Lexington SC Embraces A New Chapter in Soccer

The landscape of soccer in Lexington, Kentucky, has taken an exciting turn as the Lexington Sporting Club kick-starts a new chapter with its inaugural season in the USL Super League. Since its establishment in 2021, the soccer franchise has created a significant impact in central Kentucky, and it’s ready to venture into a new phase this weekend.

This weekend marks the debut of the brand new USL Super League team from Lexington Sporting Club in the newly launched Division One professional women’s soccer league. With this significant milestone, Lexington has firmly put its foot in the door of professional women’s soccer in the United States.

Anticipations Run High As Lexington SC Prepares For Its Maiden Game

Coaches, players, and soccer enthusiasts alike eagerly look forward to the team’s first professional game. Mike Dickey, the head coach of the Lexington SC USL Super League team, expressed his excitement, “I’m really excited. You know, game day for a coach, for a player is extremely exciting. So to finally have the team in place here in Lexington ready to compete and in our first ever game, professional game, you know, as a team, super excited.”

The players share their coach’s enthusiasm. MaryKate McGuire, a player with Lexington SC USL Super League team, conveyed her anticipation for the inaugural game against Carolina Ascent FC, “It’s been a really, really long time coming. Like, I signed with Lexington back in January so it’s been several, several months. And for it to finally be here and be a reality, we are so, so excited to get started.”

More About USL Super League

The USL Super League, in its first season, features eight teams with the league’s horizon set to expand in the forthcoming years. In an unusual departure from the norms of American sports, the league will follow the conventional “fall-to-summer” soccer calendar seen around the world, differing from the men’s team that plays within the same calendar year.

The league aims to foster and elevate women’s professional soccer in the US, providing a much-needed platform for women athletes in the sport. Lexington SC is proud to be a part of this path-breaking journey.

Upcoming Games

The Lexington SC faceoff against Carolina Ascent FC is scheduled on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at American Legion Memorial Stadium in Charlotte. The team will host its home debut on Sunday, September 8th at 4 p.m. in the brand-new Lexington Stadium.
