Lexington Schools Receive Their Rankings for the 2023-24 School Year
This week, the S.C. Department of Education revealed the much-anticipated report cards for all schools in South Carolina, and the results are out! Based on the performance data from the 2023-24 school year, schools have been given a score on a 100-point scale, helping parents and communities get a better understanding of how their schools are doing. It’s exciting to see the ranking of schools, especially in our very own Lexington County!
A Glimpse into Lexington’s Rankings
According to the report, Lexington County saw a mix of results, showcasing both amazing achievements and areas where some schools can improve. In total, there were 15 schools rated as excellent, 21 considered good, 31 ranked average, 11 classified as below average, and sadly, three schools were marked as unsatisfactory. It’s certainly a variety of scores that reflect the hard work of students, teachers, and administrators.
Standout Schools
Among the excellent schools, there are some shining stars that stood out in Lexington School District 1:
- Lake Murray Elementary
- Lakeside Middle
- Lexington High
- Meadow Glen Elementary
- River Bluff High
These schools are clearly doing impressive work, and their dedicated staff and students deserve a round of applause!
Good Scores from Other Districts
In the neighboring Districts, like Lexington-Richland 5, schools like Chapin High and Spring Hill High also received good marks. Meanwhile, charter schools such as Gray Collegiate were also celebrated for their achievements, especially in high and middle school rankings. It’s heartwarming to see educational options thriving and offering quality education.
Room for Improvement
However, not all scores were cause for celebration. Schools that received below average and unsatisfactory ratings signal that there is always room for growth. For example, Pelion High in District 1 and Airport High in District 2 both have challenges ahead, and they will need the community’s support to improve their standings in the next evaluation. Parents and teachers are key players in this journey towards better performance.
Statewide Overview
On a broader scale, South Carolina as a whole is seeing a variety of performance levels. Statewide, 230 schools (18.3%) were rated as excellent, while 316 schools (25.2%) were considered good. A notable 477 schools (38%) fell under the average category, with some needing a little extra boost to help their scores rise. With 186 schools (14.9%) below average and 47 (3.7%) deemed unsatisfactory, the education system in South Carolina has a clear path ahead to improve.
