LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — Lexington Sporting Club is suspensefully ticking down the days till it takes the pitch at its very first home game. The debut, a momentous landmark in the club’s history, is just weeks away and will be hosted in their brand-new Lexington sporting arena. Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m., the up-and-coming club will take on the mighty Tampa Bay Sun FC.
This marks an essential turning point for the burgeoning women’s professional soccer scene in the Commonwealth. The Lexington Sporting Club’s participation in the USL Super League, which upholds U.S. Soccer’s Division One standards, provides a pathway for players to enhance their skills and compete at an elite level.
“This is a thrilling moment for our community and for women’s sports as a whole,” said CEO, Kim Shelton. She adds, “We are eager to see fans fill the stadium and support our team as they embark on this incredible journey in the USL Super League. The inaugural match is just the beginning of a bright future for women’s soccer in Lexington.”
The club urged fans to buy their tickets early, hopefully setting the new stadium alight with passionate supporters. Mike Dickey, head coach of the Super League team, revealed his anticipation for the season, “Our team has been working tirelessly to prepare for this season, and we can’t wait to showcase their talent and determination on the field.”
Even in the face of construction on its new stadium, Lexington SC is diligently building its formal performance center, training fields, and a formidable team that stands ready to make an impression in the USL Super League as well as in USL League One. Starting their performance in the Super League from Sunday, Aug. 25 at Carolina Ascent FC, the Lexington SC is set on beginning the season on a high note.
As Lexington gets ready to host this historic USL Super League home match, the future of women’s soccer in this region appears to be more thrilling than ever. We are all set to witness an unforgettable milestone in Kentucky sporting history on the 8th of September.
