There’s no denying it, Lexington is buzzing with excitement these days! The downtown area, particularly along Main Street, has been a hotbed of growth in recent years, welcoming an array of new restaurants, bars, boutiques, and attractions. At the heart of it all is the town’s beloved Icehouse Amphitheater, which draws thousands of visitors each year for a vibrant mix of concerts, movies, and local markets. And in this spirited environment, there’s a new kid on the block—say hello to Circa Barbershop.
The much-anticipated shop opened its doors on October 1st at 101-B E. Main St., right behind Craig Reagin Clothiers and the exciting Craft Axe Throwing. If you’re stopping by Cribb’s Sandwich & Sweet Shop, you can easily spot Circa just across the parking lot! With the Icehouse Amphitheater just a stone’s throw away, it’s a prime location for locals looking to get a snazzy haircut and enjoy all Lexington has to offer.
At the helm of the Lexington Circa is Halie Holland, a 28-year-old barber who’s been with the Circa family for five years. After working tirelessly in various locations, she was ready for the leap to operating her own shop. “It’s definitely a big leap, but I’m thankful I have my whole team,” Halie expressed. “The way Circa operates, you have a whole team behind you and you are never on your own. We have a shop family and all work together.” This sense of camaraderie is what keeps the spirit at Circa alive and kicking!
When it comes to getting a haircut, saving your spot in line is super easy; just make a reservation via the Circa website. The shop launched with two talented barbers and plans to bring in a total of four full-time barbers, plus another one rotating through. So, no matter when you walk through those doors, you’re sure to find a skilled stylist ready to give you the perfect cut!
You might be wondering just how big Circa Barbershop is. Well, they started all the way back in Columbia in 2014, and they’ve expanded across the Midlands with several locations. Now, they’re also found in Greenville, Travelers Rest, Charleston, and even Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The founder, DR Granger, shared that they had their eyes on a Lexington location for nearly two years, eagerly searching for the perfect place. “We felt like this was close enough to Columbia to be within arm’s reach of her [existing] clientele, but also giving her enough freedom to impact a new city,” Granger stated.
Circa’s new location doesn’t just provide great haircuts; it also offers a convenient shopping experience! Once you step through the doors of the barbershop, you’ll find an entrance to Craig Reagin Clothiers right next door. This arrangement makes perfect sense, as Halie remarked, “I feel like upscale men’s grooming and upscale men’s clothing go hand-in-hand. You can look your best from head to toe.” Now, that’s a win-win!
The transformation of the 2,300-square-foot area at 101 E. Main St. was no small feat. Chapin Commercial Construction tackled the renovation, ensuring that the historic building, dating back to 1919, was carefully modernized while preserving its charm. Chad Lindler, the founder of Chapin Commercial Construction, expressed pride in being part of downtown Lexington’s revitalization. “Renovating a historic building like this presents unique challenges, but it’s those challenges that make the process very fulfilling,” he noted.
The opening of Circa is just one of many new developments along the bustling Lexington Main Street corridor. Recently, TakoSushi made waves with its grand opening, and a new Voodoo Brewing location is gearing up to open right next door. Additionally, a modern steakhouse is set to take over the former Alodia’s location. It’s undoubtedly an exciting time to be in Lexington!
With new restaurants, bars, and shops popping up left and right, it seems that downtown Lexington is the place to be! Whether you’re in the market for a fresh haircut, a new shirt, or simply want to enjoy the lively atmosphere, Main Street has something for everyone. So why not take a stroll down to the newly opened Circa Barbershop and check out all that this vibrant town has to offer?
