Exciting Development in Columbia: A Man-Made Lagoon Coming Soon!

Columbia, get ready for a splash of excitement! A new housing development is set to take the area by storm, featuring a stunning man-made lagoon and beach that will transform the local landscape. Recently, a Miami-based company known as Crystal Lagoons has received the green light from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. This means that construction can soon begin on a three-acre lagoon at the very heart of the new Oak Hills subdivision.

What’s the Scoop on Oak Hills?

Located just north of Interstate 20, this new community is expected to bring approximately 2,400 lots for both single-family homes and townhomes to the area, right at the intersection of Fairfield and Crane Church roads. How exciting is that? This project isn’t just about homes; it’s also next to the existing Oak Hills Golf Course, adding even more appeal to potential residents and visitors alike!

The lagoon itself is envisioned to be more than just a body of water. Construction is anticipated to kick off in early 2025, in partnership with local firms like Contender Development and private equity group Broadstreet. Joseph Baldassarra, the president of Broadstreet, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “The approval from DHEC marks a pivotal moment for the Crystal Lagoons® project. This significant milestone gets us one step closer to bringing our vision of a vibrant beach lifestyle community to the Midlands.”

What Can We Expect?

The planned Oak Hills community will span nearly six acres, with the lagoon being complemented by a beautiful one-and-a-half-acre artificial beach. Now that sounds like a perfect retreat not too far from home! Residents and visitors can look forward to a variety of amenities, including:

  • Tennis courts for sports enthusiasts
  • A designated area for children to play
  • A charming wedding peninsula
  • Waterfront restaurants and retail space
  • Options for water sports rentals
  • A scenic park for relaxation
  • A luxurious hotel for those wanting to stay a little longer

“The Crystal Lagoons® at Oak Hills will provide exceptional, safe, and enjoyable recreational spaces for all ages,” Baldassarra continued. He expressed excitement over creating a destination that not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also serves as a focal point for the entire region. Just imagine having a beach day without the long drive to the coast!

A Vision Taking Shape

This project marks the first of its kind for Crystal Lagoons in South Carolina, but it’s not their first rodeo—they’ve successfully developed over 70 lagoons around the globe! Their design can adapt to either private real estate developments or public venues, whether along the coast or in inland areas like Columbia.

The decision to establish this beautiful lagoon comes as a response to South Carolina’s growing population. The state has seen significant growth over the last decade, making it an attractive location for projects like Oak Hills. In fact, Crystal Lagoons highlighted their intentions for this area back in Fall 2022, and now things are finally taking off!

Join the Excitement!

Columbia residents, this is just the beginning of something special. The Oak Hills subdivision is not just an investment in housing; it’s a commitment to community and lifestyle. As the lagoon and beach come to life, it’s sure to become a beloved destination for families, friends, and anyone looking to soak up some fun in the sun without having to travel too far.

Stay tuned for more updates as construction gets underway! You won’t want to miss what this vibrant community has to offer.
