Exciting Changes at Cornerstone in Columbia: Mark Harmon Joins the Team!

Columbia is buzzing with news as Cornerstone Government Affairs, a well-known bipartisan government relations and consulting firm, makes a significant addition to its executive team! They have just welcomed Mark Harmon to their Columbia office as a principal, and folks, this is a big deal!

A Wealth of Experience

Mark Harmon isn’t just another name on a list; he brings an impressive 20 years of government affairs experience to the table. According to a recent news release, he has a proven record in public policy and business lobbying efforts that makes him a perfect fit for the Cornerstone team. Before joining Cornerstone, Harmon led the charge at The Harmon Consulting Group LLC, where he provided lobbying and consulting services to various clients, representing them in front of both the legislative and executive branches of the South Carolina government.

A Journey Through Influential Roles

Mark’s journey is nothing short of impressive. He previously served as a government affairs advisor at Maynard Nexsen, PC, focusing on contractual lobbying and consulting services at the state level. But that’s not all! Harmon was also the executive director of the American Petroleum Institute of South Carolina, advocating for the oil and natural gas industry. In this role, he was pivotal in coordinating with state agencies to ensure that vital products got to high-demand areas during hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Additionally, Harmon doesn’t just focus on lobbying; he has a heart for education as well. He has fostered relationships with several Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the state, promoting STEM opportunities within the oil and gas sectors. It’s safe to say he’s making a positive impact in multiple areas!

Leadership and Collaboration

Prior to his impactful work with the American Petroleum Institute, Harmon held the position of vice president of government affairs and public policy for the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. Here, he represented the state’s business community and headed a team responsible for crafting the Chamber’s public policy agenda and social media outreach. This role undoubtedly sharpened his skills and broadened his network, which will be beneficial for Cornerstone.

Mark’s career also includes leading the South Carolina Senate Republican Caucus as their executive director, where he managed campaigns and served as a liaison to ensure that various interests were represented. His expertise helped the Caucus gain seats and expand its majority during his tenure.

What’s Next for Cornerstone?

“We are thrilled to welcome Mark to our South Carolina team,” said Campbell Kaufman, Cornerstone President, in the release. “Mark brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will be instrumental as we continue to expand our business and service our clients in Columbia.”

Harmon expressed his enthusiasm for joining the team as well, saying, “I’m delighted and honored to join Cornerstone’s growing team in South Carolina. I look forward to contributing my skills and expertise to the firm and working alongside these dedicated professionals to ensure successful outcomes for our clients.”

A Bright Future Ahead

Mark Harmon joins Daniel Boan, who launched Cornerstone’s presence in South Carolina just a few months ago in August 2024. With such strong leadership in place and a commitment to quality service, it appears that Cornerstone is on the path to success in the state!

Onward and upward, Columbia! Stay tuned to see how Mark’s vast experience unfolds in his new role, and how it benefits clients and communities in South Carolina!
