Massachusetts Man Missing on Family Vacation in Hilton Head, Investigation Underway

Stanley Kotowski, 60, has gone missing from his family’s vacation home on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

A search operation is underway in South Carolina for Stanley Kotowski, a 60-year-old man from Massachusetts, after he unexpectedly left the rental vacation home he was sharing with his family in Hilton Head Island and has since disappeared. Family members believe that Kotowski’s sudden disappearance could be linked to a concerning mental health breakdown. Authorities in Beaufort County, where Hilton Head Island is located, have been conducting a comprehensive search operation for several days but have yet been unable to locate Kotowski or establish contact.

Kotowski’s Last Moments Before Disappearance

Kotowski was last seen on the morning of August 16, as he was leaving the family’s vacation rental without shoes, his wallet, or his cell phone, according to a Facebook post from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office. Family members residing in Methuen near Boston told media that Kotowski had lately been dealing with escalating levels of anxiety and had been suffering from severe insomnia for the past month.

“His anxiety just kept getting worse and worse. And he started to get a little paranoid. He thought someone was chasing him,” his wife Jackie Kotowski said. His son Zak added that his father is typically robust and athletic, and characterized him as a strong individual.

Search Efforts Continue for Stanley Kotowski

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office has been persistently conducting a concentrated search effort for several days now. The search team includes canines, drones, and helicopters. The effort continues, with firefighters now also assisting in searching residential and wooded areas. Stanley Kotowski’s details have also been entered into national databases and dispatched to enforcement agencies across the state, according to the sheriff’s office.

Stanley Kotowski was last seen wearing a dark Coors light T-shirt, dark blue or black shorts, and no shoes. His family describe him as being 6 feet tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds, with short brown hair and brown eyes. He is reported to have a strong Boston accent.

Authorities hope that residents may help in the investigation by checking their home security system footage in case they have captured Kotowski on camera. The last known footage of Kotowski comes from a local resident’s Ring camera. If anyone has any leads or relevant information about Stanley Kotowski’s whereabouts, they are urged to contact Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office’s non-emergency line at 843-524-2777.
