Miami Survives Wild Finish Against Virginia Tech

Miamia, FL — Wow, what an absolute nail-biter! The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes pulled off a stunning 38-34 comeback win against Virginia Tech in a game that had it all—late-game drama, heart-stopping moments, and even a potential game-winning touchdown that slipped right through the Hokies’ fingers.

Fourth Quarter Frenzy

The Hurricanes found themselves in hot water, trailing by 10 points entering the fourth quarter. Things looked bleak, especially after Miami quarterback Cam Ward had a rough outing early on, throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble. However, as the pressure mounted, Ward found his footing and turned the game around. He skillfully tossed two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including the epic one-yarder to Isaiah Horton with just under two minutes left. Talk about a comeback kid!

In the end, Ward completed 24 of 36 passes for an impressive 343 yards and four touchdowns. He added another rushing touchdown, finishing with 57 yards on the ground to further solidify his spot as a Heisman favorite. The dude was on fire down the stretch, leading Miami to score touchdowns on their last three possessions, taking advantage of every chance after a shaky start filled with turnovers.

Virginia Tech’s Almost Moment

Now, for the Hokies, this game might sting a little bit more. They were riding high with a 27-17 lead midway through the third quarter and had a chance to extend their advantage. Instead of going for a field goal, Virginia Tech opted for a trick play that totally backfired. The holder tried to pass to a tight end, but Miami’s Malik Bryant wasn’t having any of it, snuffing out the fake like it was a bad joke.

After that failed play, Miami capitalized big time. They went on an 89-yard drive that ended with Ward running for a 17-yard score, bringing the Hurricanes back into the game at 27-24. Just when it looked like Miami was on the rise, the Hokies struck back with a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kyron Drones to Ayden Greene to regain some breathing room. Drones, who finished with 189 passing yards and two touchdowns, was trying to cap off a great day but could only watch as the game took a heartbreaking turn.

A Crazy Ending

As the clock wound down, the Hokies had one last chance to steal the thunder. Drones launched a pass into the end zone just as the clock hit zero. Da’Quan Felton came down with the ball, and the referee called it a touchdown. Cheers erupted across the stadium until everyone realized the reviewing committee had something to say. After an excruciating review, it was determined that Felton didn’t have complete control of the ball, and the touchdown was overturned. The emotional rollercoaster had left everyone gasping for air, but Miami held on for the win!

Stats and Standouts

On the ground, Virginia Tech’s Bhayshul Tuten was a standout, rushing for 141 yards and a touchdown. Combined with Drones’ rushing efforts, the Hokies amassed 206 rushing yards. Meanwhile, Miami’s own Damien Martinez led the Hurricanes with 60 rushing yards on 14 carries, showing a well-balanced attack in the end.

What’s Next?

Miami is gearing up for a road trip next Saturday to take on Cal at a late-night kickoff, while Virginia Tech is also heading west to challenge Stanford. These teams have a lot to think about after a game filled with twists and turns, but one thing’s for sure: college football continues to deliver the excitement we crave!
