Midland Gears Up for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s This Saturday
As the golden leaves begin to fall and the crisp air settles in, the lovely city of Midland is buzzing with excitement for a very special event this weekend! On October 19, residents are invited to lace up their walking shoes and join the fight against Alzheimer’s at the annual Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year, the stroll will take participants through beautiful Segra Park, nestled in the vibrant BullStreet District at 1640 Freed St.
A Community United for a Cause
Already, over 500 people have registered to make their stride count in the quest to raise a whopping $225,000 for Columbia. These funds are crucial, especially with nearly 7 million Americans currently living with Alzheimer’s disease, one of the leading causes of death in the country. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends step into the role of caregivers. In our very own South Carolina, there are over 112,500 individuals grappling with the illness and nearly 219,000 caregivers lending their support. These statistics highlight just how vital this cause is!
A Meaningful Start
Before the walk kicks off, participants will gather for a touching event known as the Promise Garden Ceremony. This ceremony is more than just a pre-walk gathering; it is a significant moment that symbolizes our collective commitment to ending Alzheimer’s. As walkers embark on their 2-mile journey, they will carry colorful flowers—each hue representing their personal connection to the disease. It’s a beautiful way to honor loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s and show our unity in this noble fight.
