Columbia Sizzles with Writ3rs Block’s Musical Magic at Recess on the River
Hey Columbia! The weather forecast is predicting some rain showers early, so don’t forget your umbrellas, but the fun doesn’t stop there! Expect an overcast afternoon with highs reaching around 69°F. The winds are gentle out of the south, making it a lovely day for a music vibe—even if it’s drizzling a bit!
For all you music lovers out there, listen up because we’ve got an exciting event that’s becoming the talk of the town! If you’ve ever wandered through Columbia’s Riverfront Park and thought it would be a dreamy picnic spot, you’d be right! That idea has transformed into a fabulous event known as Recess on the River, hosted by the awesome local band, Writ3rs Block. Imagine cozying up on the grass next to the beautiful Congaree River, surrounded by fantastic tunes. Sounds pretty perfect, right?
This summer, the members of Writ3rs Block decided to do something special. They’ve created a welcoming, family-friendly environment that showcases the incredible talent nestled in our very own city. With BlaneRichard Thomas on the guitar, and the stunning voice of Olivia Zoe, this trio is bringing a refreshing energy that Columbia has been craving!
More Than Just Music: Building Community
In their own words, Writ3rs Block is all about “nourishing the soil” and watching local talent blossom. “What can we do if no one showed up? We could just play music by the river,” says Blane with a grin. They kicked off their first event in May with only a handful of attendees but wow, have things changed! They’ve seen upwards of 80 to 100 people join in on the fun since then!
“It’s all about fun,” Richard says. And they sure know how to bring it. Writ3rs Block blends various musical influences, ranging from singer/songwriter vibes to hip hop and Southern rock. Each performance is a delightful surprise that keeps the crowd buzzing!
A Dream for the Future
When starting this event, Olivia admits there wasn’t a big plan; it was simply something they wanted to do. However, as they saw the community engagement grow, big dreams started to bubble up! “Ideally, this would become something of a music festival,” she shares excitedly. A festival that continues to be free and showcases local talent? Yes, please!
Columbia is thriving with talent, and Writ3rs Block firmly believes that it’s essential for locals to have the opportunity to enjoy live shows. As Blane put it, “There’s so much talent in Columbia!” It seems like this band is helping pave the way for local artists to shine.
How You Can Contribute
Thinking you want to contribute to this wonderful event? Olivia suggests that while monetary donations are always welcome, you can simply show up with a case of water or bring along a game. It’s all about creating that friendly, communal atmosphere that makes Recess on the River so special.
Wise Words from Writ3rs Block
As the interview wrapped up, they shared some parting wisdom. Blane encourages everyone to nurture their imagination, saying, “Your imagination can be your best friend or your enemy, so show it love.” Meanwhile, Olivia reminds us to follow what feels silly and embrace our inner child. Richard sums things up with, “Just get out of your own way. Do what feels good!”
So, if you’re looking for a fun outing this week, catch Writ3rs Block at their next riverside concert! You won’t regret it. And remember, support local and come hang out in the heart of Columbia!
