Lexington, it seems, is truly on the rise. Over the past few years, the downtown area has been buzzing with activity, and there’s no sign of slowing down. The Main Street corridor has embraced a wave of new restaurants, bars, boutiques, and attractions, making it the go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. Central to this excitement is the Icehouse Amphitheater, which draws in thousands with its lineup of concerts, movies, markets, and more.
Just as downtown’s momentum reaches new heights, there’s an addition to the neighborhood that will help keep everyone looking fresh and stylish—a new barbershop named Circa Barbershop. Founded in Columbia back in 2014, Circa has successfully expanded its reach throughout the Midlands and beyond. On October 1, they officially opened their latest location at 101-B E. Main St. This new shop sits conveniently behind Craig Reagin Clothiers and Craft Axe Throwing, right across the parking lot from Cribb’s Sandwich & Sweet Shop. Plus, the vibrant Icehouse Amphitheater is just a short stroll away, making it a perfect spot to visit before or after a concert.
At the helm of the Lexington Circa is Halie Holland, a 28-year-old eager to bring her passion for grooming and style to the community. Having spent five years working at various Circa locations, she’s more than prepared to take on the big leap of running her own shop. “It’s definitely a big leap,” Halie said, “but I’m thankful I have my whole team. With Circa, you have a whole team behind you, so you’re never on your own.”
Currently, the Lexington Circa has two barbers but plans to hire four more, with another barber on rotation. If you’re looking to spruce up your look, they’re encouraging customers to make reservations through the Circa website.
Circa isn’t new to this game. The barbershop chain boasts several locations in the Columbia area, and they’ve expanded to other cities like Greenville, Travelers Rest, Charleston, and even Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The founder of Circa, DR Granger, has been excited about establishing a presence in Lexington for almost two years. “This space felt right for Halie, close enough to Columbia for her existing clients but offering her the chance to impact a new city,” he explained.
One of the delightful aspects of the new Circa location is its proximity to Craig Reagin Clothiers. “I feel like upscale men’s grooming and upscale men’s clothing go hand-in-hand,” Holland notes, making it easy for customers to achieve their best look from head to toe. What a great way to plan a fun outing—enjoy a haircut, browse stylish clothes, and grab a bite to eat!
The building at 101 E. Main St. has a rich history, dating back to 1919. Under the watchful eye of Chapin Commercial Construction, the entire 2,300-square-foot lower floor was recently renovated. This work not only transformed the space for Circa but also includes offices for Craig Reagin and additional storage and kitchen areas. Chad Lindler, the founder of Chapin Commercial Construction, expressed the fulfillment of participating in the downtown revitalization. “Renovating a historic building presents unique challenges, but those challenges make the process very rewarding,” he stated.
The opening of Circa adds to a series of exciting developments along the Lexington Main Street corridor. Just a month prior, the Latin and Asian restaurant TakoSushi opened its doors at 102-C W. Main St., and a Voodoo Brewing location is set to open next door. Additionally, a trio of restaurateurs plans to launch a modern steakhouse at 101 W. Main St., taking over the former Alodia’s space. Clearly, Lexington is thriving!
If you haven’t visited downtown Lexington recently, perhaps now’s the perfect time to pop in, get a fresh haircut at Circa, enjoy a meal, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the area. With all these exciting changes, it’s clear that Lexington is the place to be!
