Expecting a little one can bring a whirlwind of emotions, preparation, and the joy of anticipation. And for the wonderful families in Northeast Columbia, there’s some exciting news that might just make the journey a bit smoother!
Just off Farrow Road, the MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast is gearing up to welcome a special addition—a brand-new Labor and Delivery Unit! This facility is set to open its doors in January 2025, and it’s already creating quite the buzz in the community.
Northeast Columbia is on the rise, with growth statistics showing it’s happening at one of the fastest rates in the country. To meet this exciting demand, the team at MUSC is investing in this bustling area. Chief Operating Officer, Matthew Medley, has expressed the organization’s commitment to providing better healthcare options right where the families are. “We are investing in our community by opening a labor and delivery unit to accommodate the growth that’s currently and we anticipate in our future,” he shared.
So, what can expecting parents look forward to? The new Labor and Delivery Unit will feature:
With more spacious environments, it’s all about making expectant families feel more comfortable and at ease during this important time. Dr. Todd Kraemer, an OBGYN at the facility, noted, “Some people want a facility that’s closer to home that feels a little more like an extension of their living room.” It’s about providing a healthcare experience that aligns with patients’ preferences and convenience.
The sentiment surrounding the opening of this new unit is overwhelmingly positive. There’s a clear excitement in the air as the community looks forward to having healthcare options tailored specifically for them. “This is an incredible place to be. It’s a special community and a special environment,” said Medley. He further emphasized that families will be welcomed warmly, saying, “When you walk in the door, our culture and our facilities are going to welcome you and grow with you and your family.”
As the grand opening draws nearer, plans are also in place to ensure that the unit is fully staffed. The Labor and Delivery Unit will have around six doctors/providers and approximately 40 nurses to assist families during this exciting chapter of life. It’s evident that there’s a commitment to not just meeting but exceeding the needs of the growing community.
The anticipation for the new Labor and Delivery Unit at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast is palpable. It symbolizes more than just a facility; it represents a commitment to family-centered care in a thriving community. As families prepare to welcome new members, having a reliable and comforting space nearby could make all the difference.
