Sponsor Our ArticlesGrand Island recently hosted the NSAA state girls golf tournament, featuring top young golfers from Nebraska. Defending champion Eden Larson from Lincoln Southwest secured the Class A title, showcasing an impressive performance. In team competition, Omaha Marian clinched their first Class A title since 2010. The tournament demonstrated exceptional talent and determination among participants, promising excitement for future events.
Grand Island was the place to be as the NSAA state girls golf tournament took over this week, bringing together some of the best young golfers from across the state. The tournament featured three classes, all competing fervently for glory on the picturesque courses of Nebraska. Class A dazzled at the Riverside Golf Club, while Class B swung into action at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering, and Class C took to the greens at Lake Mahoney Golf Club in North Platte.
One of the most thrilling stories of the tournament was the amazing performance by Eden Larson, a talented junior from Lincoln Southwest. Larson stepped onto the course as the defending champion and did not disappoint. She clinched the Class A title once again with an impressive score of 3-over 147. This score placed her three shots ahead of the rest of the competition, confirming her status as one of the elite golfers in the state.
The tournament began with Larson showcasing her skills on Monday, where she scored a solid 74. This put her in the lead by two strokes as she headed into the second day. On Tuesday, she continued to shine, carding a 73 which turned out to be the tie for the lowest round of the day. Her performance included hitting two birdies and a critical par early on, allowing her to stretch her lead to an impressive six-stroke advantage at one point in her final round.
While Larson was the star of the Class A event, others showed significant prowess as well. Fremont’s Ansley Giesselman secured the second position, while third place went to Omaha Marian’s Madison Murnan. Their strong performances underscored a highly competitive environment, but it was Larson who ultimately triumphed.
The excitement didn’t stop with individual glory. In the team competition, Omaha Marian took home first place, proudly finishing with a total score of 643. This marks their first Class A title since 2010, a significant achievement for the school. Close behind were Omaha Westside, who scored 667, and a tie for third place between Lincoln Southwest and Lincoln East, both finishing at 670.
Larson’s personal achievements this season have been remarkable as well, wrapping things up with five consecutive tournament victories. Notably, Lincoln Southwest’s golf team has maintained a strong tradition, remaining in the top two in Class A since 2010, making their consistent success a point of pride for the school.
Reflecting on the tournament, Larson conveyed that while last year’s playoff victory carried more excitement, she felt satisfied with her performance this year, having defended her title with style and grace.
In addition to the state championship, the Grand Island Cup was held at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course, where individual and team winners were also determined. Julia Messere from GICC triumphed in the individual competition, while the Northwest Vikings took home the team title, garnering 147 points. GICC and Grand Island followed in second and third places, respectively, with scores of 137 and 121.
Overall, the NSAA state girls golf tournament provided a thrilling showcase of talent, perseverance, and determination on the greens. With Larson defending her title and Omaha Marian securing a long-awaited team victory, this year’s event will be remembered for its high-quality competition and exciting moments. Golf enthusiasts will certainly be looking forward to next year’s tournament!
