Orangeburg Community Gathers for Save A Life Day

On a sunny day in Orangeburg, the community came together for a heartwarming event known as Save A Life Day on October 25. This initiative, which is all about creating awareness and providing resources related to substance misuse, was spearheaded by The Courage Center, a local recovery community organization dedicated to supporting individuals grappling with substance use disorders.

Making Narcan Accessible

Set up in the bustling parking lot of Kimbrell’s Furniture, The Courage Center was on a mission to distribute Narcan kits, an essential tool that serves as an antidote for opioid overdoses. For those who might not be familiar, Narcan is a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose if administered in time. During this impactful day, approximately 25 Narcan kits were handed out to both drivers and pedestrians who stopped by the community table.

A Welcoming Space for Recovery

The Courage Center, located at 950 Holly St., is more than just an event-hosting organization. They are a lifeline for many in the community facing substance use challenges. If you’re interested in finding a supportive environment, their All Recovery meetings are set to begin on November 19 at their location. It’s an open-door policy, meaning anyone is welcome to attend. For more details, residents can simply call (803) 987-8700. This initiative highlights the center’s commitment to fostering a safe and welcoming space for those in need.

A Community at Work

The event not only connected people with valuable resources but also fostered a sense of camaraderie as residents engaged in conversations about recovery and support. The positive spirit was evident as individuals learned about the importance of having Narcan on hand—it’s a vital part of making a difference in the lives of those affected by opioid use.
