Rainy Weather and Traffic Safety Changes Looming Over Columbia

Rainy Days Ahead: What You Can Expect in Columbia

Good morning Columbia! If you were hoping for some sunshine this week, you might need to hold off on those outdoor plans for a bit. The forecast is in, and it looks like we are in for a good soaking! With periods of rain expected, grab your umbrellas and let’s dive into the details of what’s coming our way.

Rain, Rain, Go Away?

According to the latest weather reports, today’s high is anticipated to reach around 72°F. Those comfortable temperatures may not feel so nice while we’re dodging raindrops, however. We have a 90% chance of rain, with expected rainfall nearing half an inch. So, make sure to keep those raincoats handy! With winds coming from the north at around 10 to 20 mph, it may feel a little brisk outside, especially if you get caught in that drizzle.

If you’re heading out this morning, just a heads-up: localized flooding is possible, so drive carefully and watch out for those puddles.

What About Tonight?

As we roll into the evening, temperatures will drop to around 65°F, and the rain isn’t likely to stop just yet. You can expect continued cloudy skies with a 60% chance of more showers. Winds will shift slightly to the north-northwest at about 10 to 15 mph. So, if you’re out and about, don’t forget to wear something cozy!

Community Update: Traffic Safety Changes on the Horizon

Public Works Department has proposed some changes aimed at making our neighborhoods safer for everyone. Specifically, they are asking the Columbia City Council to approve a 25 MPH speed limit for the Cottontown neighborhood. This is a big step in the right direction considering the number of families in the area.

Along with the new speed limit, the proposal includes the installation of three new four-way stops and one three-way stop. That’s right; neighborhood safety is becoming a priority, and both the Columbia Fire Department and the Columbia Police Department are on board with these changes!

Historic Waverly Neighborhood Takes Action

The Public Works Department is also making strides in the Historic Waverly Neighborhood. Another proposal on the table is for three speed humps and two new four-way stops. These changes aim to enhance road safety and promote a sense of community in the area.

Residents interested in following these developments can attend the Columbia City Council meeting, which is set for Tuesday, September 17 at 4 p.m. The meeting will take place on the third floor of City Hall, located at 1737 Main Street. This is a great opportunity for community members to express their thoughts on the proposed changes!

Staying Safe and Prepared

As we prepare for the rain and the discussions surrounding traffic safety, let’s remember the importance of staying safe and engaged in our community. Whether you’re out driving or sitting at home cozy with a book, take a moment to appreciate the little things—like the sound of rain and the opportunity for a better tomorrow.

That’s all the updates for now from our vibrant city! Stay dry and safe, Columbia!
