Columbia, S.C. has added some serious excitement to its animal kingdom with the arrival of a brand-new resident at Sea Lion Landing in Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. After a long, adventurous trek of 1,200 miles, Raiden the sea lion has made himself right at home! This fluffy fellow traveled all the way from Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have him here.
Imagine being shipped thousands of miles just to become the life of the party! That’s exactly what Raiden did, and trust us, he’s ready to steal the show. His journey wasn’t just a hop and skip—transporting an animal like Raiden requires a lot of care and attention. But with all the right measures in place, he arrived safe and sound.
Now, it’s not every day that a sea lion gets to make new friends, so zookeepers took great care in introducing Raiden to his fellow sea lions. They made sure he met each of his new pals one-on-one, separated by a mesh barrier. This clever step allowed Raiden and his companions to get to know each other, ensuring they felt comfortable. It’s like a first date at the animal level!
Once everyone seemed cozy with the introductions, Raiden was officially welcomed into the main habitat. Since then, he’s been indulging in socializing and mixing it up with his new sea lion buddies!
If you’ve got plans to swing by Riverbanks Zoo soon, you’re in for a treat! You might notice some changes during the Sea Lion talks in the upcoming weeks. The zookeepers and animals will still be finding their groove together, so it might look a little different as they settle into their new routine. But don’t worry! There will still be plenty of opportunities to watch these engaging animals in action.
Don’t miss your chance to meet Raiden in person! The adorable sea lion is eager to greet visitors and show off his charming antics as he adjusts to his new digs and furry friends. While you’re there, keep an eye out for other pinnipeds who are as excited about their new buddy as Raiden is about them.
Whether you’re an animal lover or just looking for a fun family day out, heading to Riverbanks Zoo is definitely the way to go. Raiden’s arrival is just the latest news from Columbia’s incredible zoo, which consistently offers high-quality animal experiences and education.
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has long been a source of joy and education for our Columbia community. Now, with Raiden in the spotlight, it’s a great time to visit, snap some pictures, and enjoy watching all the sea lion shenanigans that are sure to unfold. Bring the whole family and create some unforgettable memories!
So grab your cameras and your sense of adventure, and head down to Riverbanks Zoo soon to meet Raiden. He can’t wait to see you! Welcome to Columbia, Raiden—we hope you find this ocean of love just as wonderful as your journey here!
