COLUMBIA — Excitement Builds for the SC Horror Convention Return!

Get ready, Columbia, because the SC Horror Convention is back and better than ever! This September 14th, the beloved event, dubbed “The Sequel,” will take over the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, and fans are buzzing with anticipation. After an impressive turnout last year with 3,500 horror enthusiasts, this year’s convention promises to be even bigger and more thrilling.

What’s Happening This Year

This year, the convention is boasting an expanded floor plan that includes celebrity panels, 175 artisanal vendors, and fun activities for all ages. Event organizer J Moulton has a wealth of experience, having previously spearheaded numerous fan conventions throughout New England. He shared a bit about how this event came to be. “I told myself I’d never do a convention again,” Moulton mused. “But Columbia welcomed me with open arms, and I thought, why not give something fantastic back?”

Celebrity Guests and Activities

The excitement doesn’t stop there! This year’s convention will bring in genre stars who fans have been dying to meet. You can snag autographs and capture those moments with the likes of “Dracul” author Dacre Stoker, “Scary Movie” actor Dave Sheridan, and “A Nightmare on Elm Street 2” director Felissa Rose. Whether you are a die-hard horror fan or just curious, meeting these icons might just be a highlight of your weekend.

But it’s not just about meeting celebs. Moulton has crafted experiences for everyone, including all-ages costume contests, a live haunt from Dark Castle Haunted Attractions, and a lively afterparty at the well-loved Columbia venue, Art Bar. Families will appreciate the Children of the Con activities, where little ones can decorate trick-or-treat bags, make masks, or join in on the dance party—all for just $5 or free with an adult pass!

Affordable Fun for Everybody

One of the biggest draws of the SC Horror Convention is its affordability. A weekend adult pass can be purchased for just $20, while a day pass is only $13. Moulton emphasized the importance of keeping things budget-friendly, addressing a common concern many fans have. “Everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy their favorite shows without fearing they’ll spend their rent money,” he said. “This is a cozy, couch-change sort of event.”

A Family-Friendly Atmosphere

With family-friendly vibes in mind, Moulton is on a mission to ensure that horror doesn’t have to equal heavy themes. “It doesn’t have to be in-your-face, blood, guts, and gore,” he explained. “We can educate while entertaining, and create an epic weekend for everyone.”

Of course, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. Despite the overwhelming acceptance, Moulton has faced a bit of backlash from parts of the community. “We do get some hate mail saying we’re evil,” he revealed, shrugging off the negativity. “But we’re just throwing a big Halloween party! If you don’t approve, that’s okay.” Moulton aims to promote inclusivity at the convention, believing it’s a vital part of the experience.

Final Thoughts and Tickets

With anticipation in the air, the SC Horror Convention is poised to be a fantastic weekend filled with thrilling experiences for the whole family. Whether you’re coming for the spooky fun, celebrity encounters, or just to enjoy a weekend surrounded by fellow enthusiasts, there’s something for everyone.

Tickets are currently available on the event’s website, so make sure to grab yours before they sell out! Columbia, get ready for an unforgettable horror celebration—can’t wait to see you there!
