Man Wanted in South Carolina Bites Arresting Officer

Escalation to Violence

In a shocking occurrence, a man sought for numerous counts in South Carolina, including shoplifting and failure to stop for police, was caught in a dramatic confrontation on Friday night. This ended up in an incident where the man known as Marty Benjamin Miller bit a police officer during an attempt to apprehend him.

An on-duty officer first identified Miller in the Nicholtown neighborhood, located in Greenville, South Carolina. On approaching Miller’s vehicle stationed outside a residence on McCullough Street, the officer made his intention to detain him clear. However, attempts to have Miller comply ended up futile as he resisted arrest and tried to escape in his vehicle.

Additional Reinforcement

Upon seeing the situation getting out of hand, another officer reached the scene, where they collaborated to hinder Miller from fleeting the scene. Their attempts were met with further resistance from Miller, who, amidst the melee, brandished a gun. Thankfully, the police were able to disarm him before he could use it to his advantage.

Despite having been disarmed, the suspect nonetheless managed to inflict an injury on one of the officers by biting the officer in a wild act of aggression. In response, a K9 officer was brought into the scene, which resulted in the dog biting the suspect, Miller.

Arrest and Charges

After the biting incident, the police were able to eventually detain Miller, who was then due for some medical treatment at a local hospital. His bond, set at a handsome $20,000, was an affirmation of the severity of the numerous charges against him. The officers involved in the confrontation also received transportation to the hospital for further examination and care.

At the moment, Miller was primarily wanted for shoplifting, not stopping for the police, and texting while driving. Yet, after the Friday incident took place, he’s now staring at more grave charges. These include resisting an officer with assault, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person with a violent criminal record, and impeding law enforcement officers from their duty.

Conclusion

This startling series of events in South Carolina serves as a stark illustration of the dangers law enforcement officers face when serving their duty, even during apparent routine operations. Nevertheless, given their training and preparedness, they were able to resolve the situation without anyone getting seriously hurt.
