Tragic Hunting Accident Claims Life of Upstate Man

Townville, SC – A Thanksgiving Day hunting accident has left a family devastated after 43-year-old Michael K. Roger died following a fall from a tree stand while hunting with his son. The unfortunate incident occurred on November 23, 2023, around 4:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of Highway 24.

Emergency Response

Local authorities were alerted after a 911 call reported that a man had fallen from a tree stand and was unresponsive. Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Medshore Ambulance Service, the Anderson County Fire Department, Lifeflight, and the Department of Natural Resources quickly responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, they discovered that Roger’s son, just 11 years old, had already begun performing CPR on his father, showing remarkable presence of mind. EMS personnel continued resuscitative efforts before transporting Roger to a local emergency room.

Injuries Sustained

Despite the immediate medical attention, Michael K. Roger succumbed to his injuries around 7 p.m. that same evening. The coroner’s findings indicated that Roger sustained a severe neck injury from falling approximately 18 feet from the tree stand. An investigation by the Anderson County Office of the Coroner revealed that he had been dealing with some recent illness, suggesting this may have contributed to the fall.
