Lexington, SC — In the upcoming Lexington County Council Seat 4 primary, prominent business manager Todd Cockrell has announced his candidacy against local Realtor Doug Leonard. The race highlights two newcomers to the field of politics vying for the spot being vacated by retiring incumbent Debbie Summers.
Cockrell, a resident of Oak Grove area in Lexington County, is married to Kimberly Cockrell, an active member of Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD). Todd has an impressive career in commercial printing and marketing, making a recent career pivot to manage a flourishing commercial cleaning equipment and chemical operation- Kamo, Inc. The couple resides between the Oak Grove community and the Town of Springdale and are often found supporting MADD campaigns and attending Felony DUI hearings at the crack of dawn.
Transitioning from being an expert in marketing and printing to a business manager, Cockrell led Kamo, Inc. to thrive. Under his management, Kamo, Inc. caters to big businesses and institutions like the Colonial Life Arena, University of South Carolina, and many more. His work ethic and dedication to customer service are admired greatly, with Cockrell often personally ensuring that customers’ immediate needs are met with diligence.
Strong and level-headed, Cockrell describes his leadership style as leading from the front, exemplified by his work ethics at Kamo, Inc. As a potential county council member, Cockrell’s vision is to have all stakeholders come together, to understand the issues faced by the community, and resolve them by working side by side. He perceives Lexington county akin to a major business operation that can benefit from common-sense problem-solving solutions. Prioritizing the ongoing issues in Lexington County, he believes that gaps in emergency services, road and traffic congestion, and housing shortages should take precedence over other matters.
Cockrell is known for respecting the departments and allowing the hired experts to do their jobs. He believes in honesty, integrity, and ready accountability, should any department face significant issues. If elected to the council, Cockrell aims to bring this balance of trust and timely checks into the council operations as well.
People-centric to the core, Cockrell guarantees to be available to the people of District 4, hearing their issues and guiding them through the bureaucratic maze. He values the legacy left by Summers, recognizing the need to continue the progress made under her stewardship. A poised and amiable person, he has pledged to serve his friends, neighbors, and all the citizens of Lexington County with utmost dedication and sincerity.
