On May 15th, the city of Cayce announced the grand opening of its newest attraction, a self-guided nature hike otherwise known as the TRACK Trail. The trail was officially inaugurated by the city’s elected officials during a festive event marked by the cutting of the ribbon.
The TRACK Trail aims to offer its visitors an interactive, informative, and thrilling experience as they navigate themselves through the trail. This is enhanced by a range of activity brochures that transform an average hike into an extraordinary adventure filled with entertaining and enriching discoveries.
One of the many informative and educational activities provided along the trail includes the ‘Types of Trees’ guide, dedicated to helping children understand and identify the different species of oak, maple, and pine trees lining the trail. There is also the ‘Birds of the Woods and Wetlands’ activity which provides information for identifying the park’s most popular bird species.
Speaking on the occasion, Jason Urroz, the director of Kids in Parks, outlined the grand vision behind the creation of the TRACK Trails network. “Our ultimate goal is to help families fall in love with nature, allowing them realize the value our parks and public lands hold for their lives,” he stated.
Tracy Hegler, the City Manager of Cayce, expressed her gratitude to Kids in Parks for choosing Cayce’s Riverwalk as a site for the TRACK Trail. She added, “We look forward to watching the public enjoy it for years to come.”
Kids who participate in the trail activities can register their adventures on the Kids in Parks website to earn a series of prizes. These prizes are designed to make subsequent outdoor adventures even more fun and meaningful. Since the inception of the program, more than a million TRACK Trail adventures have been completed by kids.
The grand opening was also attended by both Girls on the Run, a national after-school program that empowers girls through running, and D.O.V.E.S., an organization focused on promoting and empowering girls through education and self-discovery.
