Tragic Collision on I-26 in Orangeburg County Results in Two Fatalities

In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, two individuals lost their lives in a horrific traffic accident on I-26 in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. The mishap, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, took place near mile marker 156, about six miles to the north of Bowman.

Details of the Accident

According to the state troopers, the fatal crash involved a Honda CRV traveling east on the I-26. The driver abruptly veered off the right-hand side of the highway. In an attempt to regain control, the driver overcorrected and subsequently lost control of the vehicle. The Honda CRV then swerved off the left side of the road, careening through the median, and finally colliding head-on with a westbound Chrysler van.

During the course of the accident, debris from the collision resulted in damage to three other vehicles that were also on the road at the time. The tragic incident led to the immediate death of the drivers of the Honda CRV and the Chrysler van.

Investigation Continues

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently spearheading the investigation into the fatal crash. While outreach efforts to the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office are still ongoing for further details, the identities of the deceased have not been released yet. Continuing investigation is expected to reveal the precise events leading to this unfortunate accident.
