Teen Motorcyclist and Lexington Man Die in Tragic Road Accident
In a tragic turn of events on Tuesday, a Lexington man was struck and killed by a 17-year-old motorcyclist on Kyzer Road. The motorcyclist also died in the incident, which happened at around 10 p.m., according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
A Fatal Encounter
Kevin Scott Collins, a 63-year-old resident of Lexington, was crossing the street on the 200 block of Kyzer Road after checking his mailbox when the accident occurred. The motorcyclist, identified as James Leonard Ely III, also from Lexington, was traveling west on Kyzer Road when the crash happened.
The coroner’s report stated that Ely had a passenger on the motorcycle along with him. The passenger, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Ely was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the wreck.
Victims Declared Dead at the Scene
Following the crash, both Collins and Ely were declared dead at the scene by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. The South Carolina Highway Patrol has been brought in to investigate the incident.
