The winds now classify it as a tropical storm. In Lexington County, SCDOT personnel are busy cleaning ditches and drains in anticipation of massive rainfall, ready to counter potential floods.
Increased Preemptive Efforts Across the State
Statewide, SCDOT has shifted into 24-hour operation mode, activating additional crew members and pre-staging equipment in known flood-prone areas. With a prediction of “massive amounts of rain” from Tuesday through Thursday, the scale and breadth of operations have been substantially magnified.
Lake Murray Dam Preparations
Senior reporter Tim Spires from the Lexington Ledger reports that Dominion Energy has opened one of the flood gates on Lake Murray Dam, causing water to pour through the spillway. Speaking with the owner of Jake’s Landing near the dam, it was noted that the water level in the lake remains relatively high, having dropped only about 6”.
Regulating Price Gouging during Emergencies
SC Attorney General Alan Wilson has activated South Carolina’s law regarding price gouging during a state of emergency, warning that violation of this law will not be tolerated. This action followed Governor Henry McMaster’s decision to place South Carolina under a state-of-emergency earlier today.
