Driver Faces Medical Emergency Leading to Collision on Harmon Street

A shocking traffic occurrence took place on August 9, 2024, on Harmon Street, Lexington. Police reported a sudden collision on East Main Street or US-1 at Harmon Street. They attributed the accident to a motorist who was experiencing an unforeseen medical emergency behind the wheel.

The Incident

The incident was extremely unexpected, becoming a cause for immense concern for local traffic, as well as a disruption for drivers who had planned to use the route. Due to the accident, inbound traffic on East Main Street/US-1 was diverted to Taylor Street stated Lexington Police Department (LPD).

Not only did the incident affect the incoming traffic, but it also impacted outgoing vehicles. There were widespread reports of a slowdown in outbound traffic, which led to an accumulation of vehicles on the roads.

Emergency Services at Work

First responders at the scene were swift in responding to the incident, immediately cordoning off the area to ensure the public’s safety and to facilitate rescue services. Pedestrians and other road users were urged to be cautious due to first responders working in the roadway at the scene. LPD has since posted an update stating that all lanes of East Main Street/US-1 at Harmon Street have been reopened.
