Lexington has unveiled the 2024 All-City High School Football Team, honoring outstanding players from nine teams in the area. The selections were made through nominations and rankings from the coaches of each varsity KHSAA program, with each coach nominating up to ten players for consideration.
The prestigious event recognized players across various positions, with a First and Second Team established alongside Honorable Mentions. This year has seen a remarkable display of talent, setting a high standard for future seasons.
Quarterbacks Luke Pennington of Sayre and Saxton Howard from Lexington Christian lead the charge. Both players showcased exceptional skills throughout the season, contributing significantly to their teams’ performances.
The running backs list is headlined by BJ Evans from Tates Creek and Kalen “Jaws” Washington of Bryan Station, both of whom demonstrated remarkable agility and strength, contributing to their teams’ rushing attacks.
In the receiving department, standout players include Brock Coffman (Sayre), Aveion Chenault (Frederick Douglass), and Jackson Kreutzer (Lexington Catholic). Their ability to make critical catches often turned the tide in tight games.
The offensive line boasts top talents such as Austin Harmon (Frederick Douglass) and Keion Watson (Bryan Station), who provided solid protection for their quarterbacks and opened up lanes for rushing plays.
Defensive positions were equally competitive, with significant mentions in the defensive backfield. Zay White (Bryan Station) and Caden Jones (Sayre) excelled in their roles, effectively shutting down opposing offenses.
Linebackers Logan Busson and Kaden Clay from Frederick Douglass, as well as Keelan Adams from Bryan Station, were acknowledged for their relentless pursuit of the ball and leadership on the field.
The defensive line features standout players Marcus Newcomb and Seandre Maxberry from Frederick Douglass, who were instrumental in pressuring opposing quarterbacks and stuffing runs.
Special teams were represented by kicker Ethan Cooper from Henry Clay, whose leg proved vital in close contests.
In addition to the First and Second Teams, several honorable mentions were recognized, showcasing the depth of talent within Lexington’s high school football scene. Many players, such as Tates Creek’s Dakari Talbert and Paul Laurence Dunbar’s Kaleb Monroe, displayed great potential that could lead them to future accolades.
