The city of Columbia is preparing to say goodbye to a beloved community member, Vicki Vassy Holler, who passed away on November 19, 2024, at the age of 72. A funeral service will be held in her honor on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. Following the service, there will be a visitation at the church, allowing friends and family to gather and share memories. Later that day, Mrs. Holler will be laid to rest at 2:30 p.m. in the Lynchburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery, located in Lynchburg, South Carolina.
Born in Lynchburg, SC, Vicki was the daughter of the late Robert G. Vassy and Rosemary Vincent Vassy. She pursued her education passionately, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from Columbia College. Mrs. Holler continued her education at the University of South Carolina, where she received her Master’s in Elementary Education.
For over three decades, Vicki made a profound impact as a teacher, dedicating 31 years to instructing second and third graders, as well as working in the Achievement Center at Heathwood Hall. Her commitment to education not only shaped the lives of her students but affirmed her deep-rooted values of love and service to others.
Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Holler was actively involved in her community and faith. She participated in several church activities at both Trenholm Road United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church. Vicki had a profound love for cooking and cherished summers spent with family at their cottage in Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. She particularly relished the time spent with her grandchildren, finding joy in her roles as a mother, grandmother, wife, and sister.
Vicki is survived by her husband of 50 years, The Rev. John E. Holler, Jr., and their two children. Their son, John E. Holler, III, resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, while their daughter, Ryan Radaker (married to Kyle Radaker), lives in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The couple has three grandchildren: Adlai Vassy Moore, Langston Emory Moore, and Louisa Perry Moore. Vicki is also survived by her brother, Robert Gillespie Vassy, Jr. (with his wife, Patti Vassy), from Florence, SC, and her nephew, Robert Gillespie Vassy, III.
Her family remembers Vicki not only for her dedication to educating children but also for her compassion and deep love for her family. She was predeceased by her parents and her niece, Anna Marie Vassy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to the Epworth Children’s Home, located at PO Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250. Arrangements are being handled by Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, which is assisting the family during this difficult time. Those wishing to share memories may do so through their website.
