Warm November Weather Brings Summer-Like Temperatures to Columbia, South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A Warm November Welcome!

As we step into November, it feels more like summer in Columbia, South Carolina! The temperatures are surprisingly warm for this time of year, with highs expected to reach into the lower 80s today. If you had your Halloween celebrations yesterday, you probably noticed it was quite toasty, with highs climbing into the 80s across the area, including a high of 83 degrees reported at the Columbia airport. Over in Orangeburg, they even hit 84 degrees!

The Dry Spell Continues

It’s worth noting that October finished up on a very dry note here in Columbia, with only a trace of rainfall recorded throughout the month. This marks a significant moment as we now tie the record for the driest month ever in Columbia’s weather history! With these ongoing dry conditions, nearly the entire state of South Carolina is experiencing at least abnormally dry weather. So, if you were hoping for a little rain to help with that garden or to ease those pesky allergies, you might have to hold tight as the next few days are looking just as dry.

What’s Ahead for the Weekend

Looking towards the weekend, those warmer temperatures are hanging around. Today, you can expect a lovely day under partly cloudy skies with highs again in the lower 80s. But don’t get too comfy! A dry cold front is set to sweep through the state late Saturday, which means a slight cool down is on the way for Sunday. Be prepared for temperatures to dip into the middle 70s, along with partly to mostly cloudy skies as we wrap up our weekend. It should be a pleasant day to spend outdoors, just maybe grab a light sweater if you’ll be out after sundown.

A Peek into Next Week

As we kick off the new week, Monday will also bring partly cloudy skies with afternoon temperatures reaching back into the middle 70s. From Tuesday through Thursday, we’ll see a gradual return to those lower 80s once again! It seems South Carolina is holding onto that warm weather for just a bit longer. Keep an eye on Wednesday and Thursday though since there’s a slight chance of rain that might pop up, although the likelihood of any significant showers appears small.

Remembering Past Novembers

Now, while we enjoy this warm weather, let’s take a moment to reflect on a *memorable* November just ten years ago. On November 1, 2014, South Carolina experienced its earliest and heaviest snowfall on record! Yes, you heard that right! Just 10 years ago, we were pulling out snow shovels instead of summer hats. The previous records dated back to November 4, 1930, when two inches of snow fell at Caesars Head. While the snowfall resulted in brief closures on I-20 and some power outages, the overall impact was manageable. However, for those who were around to witness it, that snow-covered landscape was a sight they will surely never forget!

Conclusion

So, as you head out today, relish in that warm November sunshine and enjoy the beautiful weather while it lasts. Remember to stay hydrated and perhaps plan for outdoor activities, as this unseasonably warm spell provides a wonderful opportunity to soak in the happiness of fall before the chill starts making its way back into our lives. Happy November, Columbia!
