West Columbia Veterans Day Recognition Events Kick Off

West Columbia, SC – As we approach Veterans Day on November 11, Lexington County is rolling out the red carpet for our local heroes. The Lexington Two school district is gearing up to honor veterans with a series of heartwarming recognition events that promise to fill the air with gratitude, music, and community spirit. So, grab your calendars and pencil in some important dates!

Join the Celebration!

The Lexington Two Performing Arts Center will host a vibrant free concert featuring the Fort Jackson’s 282D Army Band on the night of Veterans Day at 6 p.m. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the entire community to come together and celebrate the sacrifices made by our veterans. But that’s not all! Local students from JROTC and various musical groups will also take part, making it an evening filled with pride and joy.

School Events to Mark on Your Calendar

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the exciting happenings at local schools leading up to the big day:

  • Wednesday, November 6Riverbank Elementary: Kick off the festivities with a heartwarming assembly where students will perform for our heroes. Times are set for 8 a.m. for 4K-2nd grades and 9 a.m. for 3rd-5th grades. Located at 160 Cougar Drive, West Columbia.
  • Friday, November 8Busbee Creative Arts Academy: Get ready for a spectacular program featuring performances from the chorus, band, orchestra, theatre, and dance groups at 9:15 a.m. The school is located at 501 Bulldog Blvd., Cayce.
  • November 8Fulmer Middle School: Veterans are invited for special performances and presentations, along with a delicious spread of doughnuts and coffee starting at 9:30 a.m. Information can be obtained by calling (803) 822-5660. Address: 1614 Walterboro Street, West Columbia.
  • November 8Northside Middle School: Breakfast for veterans from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. at 157 Cougar Drive, West Columbia.
  • November 8Wood Elementary School: Enjoy a parade featuring students in grades 3K/4K-2nd, with a special program to follow at 8:30 a.m. The school is located at 737 Pine Ridge Drive, West Columbia.

Mark Your Calendars for Veterans Day!

As Veterans Day approaches, here’s what to expect on the actual day:

  • November 11Congaree Elementary School: Expect heartfelt student performances at 9:30 a.m. with breakfast for veterans provided by the PTO beforehand. Address: 1221 Ramblin Road, West Columbia.
  • November 11Brookland-Cayce High School: Attend a special Veterans Day program at 1 p.m. featuring performances by the Honor Choir and a special speech by Retired 1st Sgt. Alexander Baker. Located at 1300 State Street, Cayce.
  • November 11Springdale Elementary School: Students will gather for an assembly and parade on the playground at 1 p.m. Address: 361 Wattling Road, Springdale.
  • November 11Saluda River Academy for the Arts: A Veterans Day assembly will take place, and veterans are invited to engage in reading sessions with students throughout the day. Address: 1520 Duke Street, West Columbia.
  • November 12Airport High School: To wrap up the celebrations, the Veterans Day program will include a tribute to our soldiers, complemented by performances from the chorus, dance team, and SC State University performing arts students at 2 p.m. Address: 1315 Boston Road.
