Governor McMaster Proclaims December Wreaths Across America Month in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – December is Wreaths Across America Month!

That’s right, folks! Governor Henry McMaster has officially proclaimed December as “Wreaths Across America” Month right here in Columbia, South Carolina! Each December, this meaningful initiative pays tribute to our brave veterans, and this year promises to be extra special.

Mark Your Calendars!

On December 14, volunteers from all corners of the nation will come together to lay over 2 million wreaths at the grave sites of veterans during this heartfelt event. It’s a day dedicated to honoring those who have served our country, and it truly signifies the spirit of gratitude and remembrance.

A Local Gathering with a Big Impact

Here in Columbia, we won’t be left out of this touching tribute. At Fort Jackson National Cemetery at precisely noon on December 14, over 13,000 wreaths will be placed at the graves of our local heroes. It’s an incredible opportunity for our community to come together in honor of those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

How Can You Get Involved?

Now, you might be wondering how you can join in on this heartwarming effort. Each wreath costs just $17 to sponsor, and every dollar goes toward honoring a hero. If you’d like to contribute and sponsor a wreath, a simple donation goes a long way in making this project a success. You can find more details and make a donation through the Wreaths Across America website.

Why Wreaths?

You might be curious about why wreaths are chosen for this tribute. The circular shape of the wreath symbolizes eternity, and its evergreens represent strength and endurance. When these wreaths are placed, they bring a beautiful and respectful touch to the grave sites. Plus, they remind us that our veterans’ sacrifices will never be forgotten.

A Warm Invitation

The event on December 14th is not just an opportunity to pay respects; it’s also a moment for community connection. Volunteers of all ages are welcome, and it’s a fantastic way for families to come together to honor and reflect. If you’re planning to attend, feel free to bring your loved ones, and maybe even share a personal story about a veteran who has touched your life.

Let’s Unite in Remembrance

The Wreaths Across America initiative is a powerful reminder that we stand united in our love and respect for those who have donned the uniform. With December upon us, the season of giving and gratitude is in full swing, making this the perfect time to support our veterans.

Whether you can sponsor a wreath or simply show up on December 14th to help lay them, every action makes an impact. Let’s put our hearts together for our veterans and show that they are remembered not just on this day, but every day.

This December, let’s make Wreaths Across America Month truly unforgettable—join hands with your neighbors, family, and friends for this patriotic and heartfelt mission. Because when we honor our veterans, we honor the very essence of our freedom.
