Seeking Answers in Columbia: Family Grieves the Loss of Xavier Jackson

Columbia, S.C. — The community is feeling a heavy heart this week as the family of Xavier Jackson, a 22-year-old native of Columbia, grapples with the tragedy of his untimely death. His body was discovered on the 3400 block of Bluff Road on a recent Tuesday, leaving a poignant void in the lives of those who loved him dearly.

Devastating News Shakes the Family

The news hit the family hard. Lajuanda Ravenell, Jackson’s aunt, expressed her anguish, saying, “I can’t even describe what I am feeling in that situation, and I can’t say what I want to say, but I’m just angry.” The depth of her feelings is palpable as she explained her desire to stand face to face with whoever is responsible, asking, “Why?

Ravenell recounted how she sensed something was amiss when she hadn’t heard from Jackson the previous night after work. “We all kept calling and got no response. We all had a feeling it was him; I just felt it. He always responds to our calls,” she revealed, her voice heavy with grief.

Memories That Will Last Forever

As the family navigates through this painful time, they hold tight to cherished memories that showcase Jackson’s loving nature. His nephew, Kalyrick White, affectionately nicknamed him “Buba,” and shared, “My favorite-most memory of him is doing fireworks with him and going to church with him.” Kalyrick beams as he remembers how Jackson would help him find bugs in the backyard, catching a praying mantis that became a fond and fun memory.

Family members fondly describe Jackson as a jokester with a unique style. “His style of clothing is so unique; I’ve never met nobody that put on jeans and always cut and slit it at the bottom – even the kids’ jeans for school,” Ravenell remarked, chuckling at the thought.

An Ambitious Dreamer

Jackson was not just a beloved family member but also an ambitious entertainer who had big dreams. His cousin, Koneisha White, remembered their last conversation, filled with hope and excitement. “It’s crazy because the last time I saw him, he said, *we’re all going to be on T.V. together*, but I didn’t think it was going to be in this way right here,” she said with tears in her eyes. “I miss him.”

The Investigation Continues

As the family struggles through this hardship, the Columbia Police are diligently investigating the circumstances surrounding Jackson’s death. At this point, authorities have not released any information regarding potential leads, leaving the family with unanswered questions and a thirst for justice.

Support from the Community

In the wake of this tragedy, Jackson’s loved ones seek support from the community. They have set up a fundraising page for those who wish to contribute to expenses during this uncertain time. It’s a heartfelt plea to rally around their family and honor the memory of a young man who was a beacon of light in their lives.

As Columbia mourns, we hold Xavier Jackson in our thoughts—a young man whose laughter, style, and dreams will be cherished forever by his family and friends. The search for justice continues, and the hope is that, soon, the questions will find answers.
